After saying our goodbye’s to Roberta Goodman’s aunt and uncle near Dallas, we headed into the heat and dryness of the American Southwest. We drove all day to get to Mountainair, NM to spend a day or so with one of Roberta’s good friends and famous author, Timothy Wyllie.

We stopped at a little local store just before it closed and purchased a few groceries for our stay in the high desert.

It was an extraordinary adobe home on the side of a hill on 80 acres. We were given a tour and engaged in fascinating conversation for the rest of the evening.

The next morning, I woke up with a migraine. Timothy had been smoking the night before and it set off my allergies. He was so fascinating, I couldn’t bring myself to leave the room.

I spent most of the next day in and out of sleep downstairs trying to move past the migraine and catch up on some much needed rest after all our travels.

I was sound asleep when I suddenly heard Roberta yell and then I heard, “bam, boom, whack, thud.” I bolted out of bed and ran as fast as possible to the next room to find Roberta lying on her back on the cement floor staring at the ceiling. She had fallen from the floor above through the trap door in the corner of the room and hit the kiva-type ladder all the way down. I was horrified by what I saw … wondering if she had been seriously injured from the fall.

Afterward, she had bruises the size of dinner plates. She spent much of the rest of the trip very sore and uncomfortable.

While she slept, I took a little “dolphin trail” hike that Timothy had on his property. I found little pottery dolphins all along the trail. It was a lovely hike and wonderful that the dolphins were there too!

Have a deLightful day,
