How to Stop Negative Thinking
Learning how to stop negative thinking is vital if you want to raise your vibration, find more joy, and live your life with passion.
Periodically I write about this topic because it is vital to your wellbeing.
It is so easy to become obsessed with all that is wrong in the world when solar flares, hurricanes, fires, and so many other things are happening.
But, as a Lightworker, you are asked to rise above all that (mentally) in order to be of the greatest service. Be aware of what’s happening in the world, but don’t wallow in it mentally, emotionally, or energetically.
People who focus on the negative all the time are rarely happy. And they rarely actually achieve their dreams.
They are their own naysayers … preventing themselves from believing in possibility. Without belief, conscious manifestation isn’t really possible. My book, Unleash Your Future, teaches all about how conscious manifestation really works. And belief is an important key.
Chronic Negative Thinking is Harmful to Your Physical, Mental, & Emotional Wellbeing
Not only does negative thinking tend to increase anxiety and depression, but a study out of London has found that it is harmful to the brain and increases the risk of Dementia.
Physically, it can cause an increase in blood pressure, headaches, and digestive issues.
Always focusing on the negative can impact your self esteem which, in turn, can destroy your relationships.
Obviously, if negative thinking is something you struggle with, then you need to do something about it … and pronto.
But before I make suggestions about how to stop negative thinking, I need to mention that we all do it sometimes. It’s really easy to fall into a negative thinking spin and have a hard time getting out of it. So, please don’t beat yourself up over it. We are all human, and we all have this tendency.
Way to Stop Negative Thinking
The first and most important step is to notice when you are focusing on the negative. Make it a point to “tune in” to how you are feeling throughout the day. If you are feeling down, sad, upset, or some other negative emotion, it is almost always because you are thinking negative thoughts. Note it on your calendar or journal. Set a reminder. Do whatever you have to do to make tuning in to how you feel an ongoing practice.
When you notice you are focusing too much on the negative, do one or more of the things below to get yourself out of it.
Beginning a daily deep meditation practice plays a huge role in shifting your mindset to the positive. If you already have my free guided meditations, then do them often. To learn all about meditation in its many forms, get my bestselling book Peering Through the Veil. To go even deeper, get my Meditation Program (Peering Through the Veil is included).
Do something that brings you joy – reading, fishing, crochet, watching uplifting movies, hanging out with friends, arts & crafts, whatever makes your heart sing.
Spend time in nature in silence. Learn to just observe the beauty of nature: the water falling gently over rocks in a stream, the birds at the bird feeder, the leaves moving in the breeze, the flowers as they bloom.
Make it a habit to be thankful for the little things. Make a list every day of the things you are grateful for. Include the things you noticed in nature as well as other simple things like a smile from a stranger, a call from a friend, a satisfying meal, etc. Gratitude can shift everything.
Find positive sayings and affirmations and say them out loud to yourself. Many people put them on little cards or post-it notes and paste them around their home and office … as constant reminders.
Read (or listen to) things daily that put you in a positive mindset. The Secrets of Success program by Russell Brunson can do just that.
